The Philadelphia 76ers will have the first overall pick in the NBA Draft for the second consecutive year after finalising their deal with the Boston Celtics on Monday and moving up from the number three spot.

"According to a high-level front-office source, the reason the Sixers "only" paid a price of two first-round picks is because both teams see little separation between no. 1 and no. 3".

Ainge added, "We'll get a player we like in addition to further assets". "We think there's a really good chance that we'll take at three, the same player we would have taken at one; an impactful asset".

Danny Ainge sounded like he was not as sold on Markelle Fultz as others are.

Ainge didn't rule out the possibility that Boston could use the No. 3 pick in a secondary move but seemed to hint that the team made this initial move simply because it believed it could add a future pick while still getting its desired player.

Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 25 games during his lone college season at Washington, excelling on a team that finished 9-22 and lost its final 13 games.

But while Colangelo's shot fired Ainge's way could be a bit of gamesmanship with a rival he's expecting to battle against as the East's next great team, it was more a sign of respect from Colangelo, who admitted that it's hard to do business with Ainge because they know one another so well dating back to their days with the Suns.

The frustration over this trade is warranted exclusively based on the C's choosing not to add the top-rated player in the draft. Fultz, 19, is attractive for Philadelphia because he can play point and shooting guard.

The 76ers may not be done dealing. Even if the team stays pat with its abundance of picks, the Celtics are still set up to create a roster filled with talent. The 76ers could package some of those packs with an existing player - such as center Jahlil Okafor - to get another first-round selection. Considering Ainge intimated said the C's didn't like Fultz with the first pick, maybe this will prove to be a savvy move. "We're lining up options". Some bids have come in.

CAMDEN - Malik Monk aced the media interview portion of his Philadelphia 76ers audition Thur... The 76ers are 75-253 since then.

"It's certainly something that I think affects our situation", Sixers GM Bryan Colangelo said Monday.

Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons... and, soon, Markelle Fultz. A bell rings every time someone sells a new season ticket.

Colangelo on the brisk pace of ticket sales: "I would venture to say we're going to be sold out this year, playing to full capacity every night".
