Mourinho knows Ronaldo could score the goals that might help win United the Premier League, but would he be prepared to put up with the media circus that would accompany the four-time Ballon d'Or victor, and would he accept being second billing to one of his players?

Real Madrid and Portugal defender Pepe has encouraged Cristiano Ronaldo to snub a move to Manchester United and join him at Paris Saint Germain instead, according to reports from Spain.

Ronaldo has spent the past few days going through his normal routine of practicing and playing with his teammates on the national team, and he skipped the post-game media session after Portugal's 2-2 draw with Mexico.

Bayern Munich on Monday rubbished reports they are set to swoop for world superstar Cristiano Ronaldo - with the German giants' chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisting it's pure fantasy.

"I am leaving Real Madrid", Marca claim Ronaldo told his Portuguese colleagues.

The Real Madrid forward wants to leave Spain and a source close to the player says United are very close to his heart.

"I'm certain that we will move on from this and that he will be with us for many more seasons".

Many predicted earlier that Ronaldo might leave Real Madrid because of the case filed against him recently.

Abramovich hopes that a move for Ronaldo, one of the biggest names in the sport, will help in convincing Conte that Chelsea is the place for him for the foreseeable future.

Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge then added: "We are accustomed to speculating intensively on possible inflows and outflows during the transfer period".

The former United star has a release clause of €1 billion ($1.12 billion) written into his Real Madrid contract, having signed a five-year deal in November 2016.

"As a rule, we do not comment on these rumours".

Ronaldo, however, favours a return to return to United and has instructed his representative, fellow Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes, to do everything in his power to make it reality after ignoring pleas from Real boss Zinedine Zidane to reconsider his position.

SIR Alex Ferguson could be the broker behind any return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United.
