Despite the heavy loss, Kohli had a smile on his face.

Kohli accepted his side had been outplayed, saying: "I want to congratulate Pakistan and their supporters".

"To be appointed as captain of the Team of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which includes some of the finest and most attractive cricketers of this generation, is the flawless icing on the cake", remarked Sarfraz.

Elated skipper Sarfraz Ahmed added: "After the India match when we lost in the group stage, I told my boys the tournament hadn't finished yet".

"You will have failures, and one team has to lose on the day, and today was our day to lose because the opposition played much better than us", he admitted.

MOHAMMAD Hafeez dedicated a stunning ICC Champions Trophy success to the public of Pakistan after thrashing India at The Oval.

Specifically pointing out the performance of Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali, Sarfraz said he was quite glad with the way they performed in the tournament and guided Pakistan to victory. "We will work really hard to keep this momentum going".

"To be appointed as captain of the Team of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which includes some of the finest and most attractive cricketers of this generation, is the ideal icing on the cake", Sarfraz told the ICC website.

Shortly after Pakistan's Muhammad Umar Bhutta netted a consolation goal, India completed the scoring through Akashdeep Singh, who claimed his second of the match.

"It has been an up and down ride". We dusted ourselves off after the defeat to India at Edgbaston and came back superbly.

"We haven't won the final, have lost a game of cricket, and that's all". So to dust ourselves off and come back from that has been a remarkable achievement.

But some officials believe the eight-team event is now too similar to the World Cup which the ICC, controversially, has decided should be contested by just 10 teams from the 2019 event in England. "But I am happier and delighted for players like Fakhar Zaman and Hassan Ali, who impressed their peers through their talent and performances, and found their way to the side". I said to him, 'I can't play tomorrow, ' but he gave me protein and glucose tablets and said 'You will play tomorrow'. "Whether that gets changed, the consideration has been given to changing to two T20s in a four-year cycle which would mean swapping the Champions Trophy for a World T20".
