Trump decries 'witch hunt' even as lawyer insists no probe

To their minds, "investigation" is tantamount to "guilty", and their cherished goal of removing Donald Trump from office was on track to succeed.

The legal team, like the president, has come out ready to hit hard, even if not always quite accurately.

Just as Trump called up to congratulate Narendra Modi after the BJP's thumping win in the Uttar Pradesh state elections - which was unprecedented, the White House backlash against H1B and Trump's anti-India rant during the U.S. pullout of the Paris climate deal are also uniquely Trumpian in terms of political strategy.

What has Trump's legal team said?

On the Post report, it gets even more weird. I wonder how Trump defines "loyalty". Public perception aside, being the subject of an investigation is also debilitating because of the time it takes to defend oneself, the financial burden of retaining lawyers (and, for a public official, retaining press agents who can deal with the media frenzy), and the anxiety that makes it hard to focus on one's job and other responsibilities. "Good luck trying to represent him".

TRUMP tweet Friday: "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof". The Post's story came soon after it reported that the FBI's Russian Federation investigation, spearheaded by special counsel Robert Mueller, had expanded to include a senior White House official as a "person of interest". Why would the president object to a thorough investigation — unless he had something to hide?

Trump is under pressure to reveal whether he has any tape recordings of private conversations with Comey.

"I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

"But just because you haven't been notified doesn't mean you're not under investigation", Cuomo shot back. "I hope you can let this go".

It's unclear where that process stands.

The questions were prompted by a tweet the president wrote last week in which he appeared to acknowledge that he is a subject of the FBI's investigation, which he seem to erroneously assert is being led by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

In testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee this month, Comey said that he based his decision to circulate a memo of a conversation between the president and himself off the tweet. There's been no notification of an investigation.

Through his campaign, Trump asserted the official jobless rate is phony because it leaves out millions who stopped looking for work.

Someone please take his Twitter away, top bureaucrats are known to be pleading with the gang of eight that surrounds Trump - Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump and a handful of others Trump is known to lean on. That may be an understandable approach in such a high-profile matter, though not always an advisable one. "That's not why I'm asking you about it", Cuomo said.

With Twitter, "the president has an ability to communicate with a broad sloth of people of 107 million", said Sekulow. Well known in the Manhattan business circles that Trump inhabits, Kasowitz has a reputation as a bare-knuckles court brawler.

As sitting president of the USA, the complete and all-encompassing constitutional authority to remove Comey at the time from his position as Federal Bureau of Investigation director were within the exclusive purview of the president, and the president's motivations for doing so were, and still are, wholly immaterial.

Jay Sekulow, personal lawyer for Donald Trump.

Asked last week if he was open to investigating the White House on questions of obstruction of justice, Grassley did not rule it out.
