Sega is bringing some of its best retro games to your smartphone. Join us on a journey of rediscovery as we roll out two decades of classic games free on mobile.

There's no word yet on whether Sega Forever will come to other platforms, but if you're listening Sega: please and thank you bring it to console and PC.

New titles will come out every two weeks. It'll offer free-to-play (but ad-supported) games from the Master System, MegaDrive, and Dreamcast era, but there's a catch: it's only available for iOS and Android mobile devices right now.

Interestingly, if you don't want to be annoyed by the ads, you can pay $1.99 per game, and they'll go away.

Incidentally, while most of the games are indeed free (but they will show ads), Sonic the Hedgeog is still marked at $2.99/€2.99 on Google Play, since it was actually released a while ago.

For more information and an interview with Sega Networks CMO Mike Evans, visit our sister site, MCV. This will expand to cover multiple console generations over time, SEGA says, and icludes both "official emulations and ported games".

The service will release classic games once every two weeks, with the initial line-up of Mega Drive/Genesis games available now including Sonic The Hedgehog, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, Phantasy Star II and Altered Beast. The first collection of games will launch alongside the app on Android tomorrow. Create your own "SEGA Forever folder" and collect your favorite classics.
