This is the first ever global FIFA tournament being held in the country and on Tuesday, the All India Federation (AIFF) has submitted an expression of interest to host the Under 20 version of the FIFA World Cup to be held in 2019. Bracing up to organise the U-17 World Cup later this year, AIFF president Praful Patel said that this would be the next "logical step for the development of football in India". The U-17 World Cup will be held in India from October 6 to 28 across six centres. Blatter has since been replaced by Gianni Infantino, and even though the Federation Internationale de Football Association president termed India as a "passionate giant" during his first visit here last year, India are not in the same position as a few years ago when they beat challenge from Ireland, South Africa, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan."India is hosting a World Cup in 2017".

He further stated that hosting another global event would only help India's cause in developing the country's football standards.

Patel added: "We have told the FIFA Competitions Committee that we are keen to host the event at the earliest available opportunity in 2019, and this will further give a boost to our grassroots initiatives".

Time will only tell if AIFF's plans will materialise.

The Under 20 World Cup follows the same format as the Under 17, both being a biennial affair with 24 teams participating. Depending on its success, the responsibility of hosting another tournament will be bestowed upon the country.
