AIG to tap Marsh CEO as 'deputy' to Duperreault

American International Group Inc is expected to hire the head of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc brokerage business to work alongside the insurer's new chief executive, Brian Duperreault, the trade publication Insurance Insider reported on Monday.

Peter Zaffino, who has served a dual role as chief executive officer at Marsh LLC and head of risk and insurance services for Marsh & McLennan Companies, will lead AIG's daily operations in all countries, including Japan and Europe, as well as US commercial field operations, AIG said.

Other details about Zaffino's upcoming role at AIG are unknown, the publication said. He will develop AIG's long-term strategy and operating plan, and be responsible for executing the commercial lines and consumer strategies.

Mr. Zaffino will start as executive vice president and global chief operating officer on August 1.

AIG's USA life and retirement businesses will continue to report to Kevin Hogan, chief executive of AIG's consumer business. Current chief operating officer Jeffrey Hurd will leave AIG at the end of July, according to an.

Marsh President John Doyle will take on the dual role of president and CEO when Zaffino leaves, Reuters reported. Zaffino also heads the risk and insurance services unit of Marsh & McLennan.
