Louisa May Alcott's Little Women is about to be adapted again-again, with United Kingdom acting royalty Michael Gambon and Angela Lansbury on the cast list.

Based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, the new three-part adaptation comes from Heidi Thomas (Call the Midwife, Cranford, Upstairs Downstairs) and will be directed by Vanessa Caswill (Thirteen, My Mad Fat Diary). The four sisters will be played by newcomer Maya Hawke, Willa Fitzgerald ("Scream: The TV Series"), Annes Elwy ("Electric Dreams"), and Katrhyn Newton ("Big Little Lies"). The BBC One series is a collaboration with the Playground production company and Masterpiece on PBS. Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, Little Women follows the story of four sisters named Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy as they journey into adulthood.

Three-time Oscar nominee Angela Lansbury will play Aunt March, the girl's wealthy relative, while Harry Potter alum Michael Gambon will appear as the family's neighbor, Mr. Laurence. The project is kicking off principal photography this month in Ireland and is expected to bow on Masterpiece sometime in 2018.
