Kerala Blasters have confirmed the appointment of Rene Meulensteen as their next head coach, replacing Steve Coppell in the Kochi-based outfit's hot seat.

Coppell joined the franchise from Kerala Blasters. He has also managed Bristol City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City, Brentford and, most notably, Crystal Palace and Reading, both of which he took from the English second tier to achieve each club's greatest-ever success.

The ISL runners up of last season announced the appointment through their social media platform on Friday (July 14) night, the final day for the appointment of coaches.

The 2017/18 season of the ISL will feature 10 teams for the first time. "I am confident that, with their collective experience, they will transform the Jamshedpur Football Club into a valuable entity that we can be proud of", Sunil Bhaskaran, vice-president, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said.

"From The Theatre of Dreams, Manchester United come the man. Jamshedpur Football Club's association with Steve Coppell and Ishfaq Ahmed is yet another step in this direction", TV Narendran, the managing director of Tata Steel India & South-East Asia which owns the Jamshedpur franchise, said. Ishfaq has also been working with Kerala Blasters for the past two years as an assistant coach. Our foray into ISL is in line with the commitment to develop Indian football.

Under Coppell, a former Manchester City manager, Kerala Blasters finished runners-up a year ago.
