Atari has also stated that "we will be delivering classic gaming content", much like the NES and SNES Classic Mini retro consoles from Nintendo, but "will also be delivering current gaming content".

The Ataribox will come in black with ribbed lines and wood paneling, a throwback to the original console released in 1977.

Atari is aiming for a "smooth design", inspired by "classic" Atari design elements, and the console will feature four USB ports, a HDMI and SD port.

The selection of ports further confirms that Atari's upcoming platform isn't exclusively intended for playing retro games.

OLD SCHOOL GAMING FIRM Atari has made a console comeback, teasing full frontal images of its all new Ataribox, the company's first physical gaming console in over 20 years. The main objective with this release is to "create something new that stays true" to Atari's heritage and appeals "to both old and new fans" alike.

Classic Atari games that could be making a return on the Ataribox include Pac-Man, Pong, Space Invaders and Asteroids.

"We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, pricing, timing", says Atari.

It goes on to state that console will play classic and "current" games, with vaguely-worded "modern internal specs".

Still, whatever the Ataribox ends up being, the one definite takeaway is that it'll certainly look nice on your mantelpiece, or wherever the hell it is that you keep your games consoles.

As said, more information about the Ataribox console will be shared later on. "We'll be giving you lots more information and status updates as we progress, and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride!" "We're not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we've opted to share things step by step as we bring this to life, and to listen closely to the Atari community feedback as we do so", Atari further said.
