"It varies a little bit from institution to institution based upon how they did in some of our championships, but we distributed a little over $34 million past year", Bowlsby said.

Texas, one of three Big 12 teams with new head coaches this season, won the league's last national championship with Vince Young at quarterback during the 2005 season.

"Make no mistake, it's not about making the playoff", Bowlsby said.

While wrestling in the Big 12 now has a total of 12 teams - the second-most in a conference behind the 14 in the Big Ten Conference - Bowlsby said there are no other Olympic sports in the conference that are currently in talks of adding affiliates. It's about winning national championships. With every other Power 5 conference playing a title game, those participating teams are playing 13 games. For the second time in three short years, the Big 12 Conference announced the inclusion of wrestling affiliates earlier this summer.

"The decision was made 100 percent based upon our ability to compete at the national level", Bowlsby said. "I think we play at an exceedingly high level, and I think over the 12 years of the playoff, you'll see Big 12 teams in there".

"We had heard from the CFP Selection Committee the fact that we didn't have that 13th data point - the championship game", Bowlsby said.

"I think it's a perception, not a reality", Bowlsby said. "I plan on being here awhile".

Bowlsby stated that Baylor's leadership group of president Linda Livingstone, athletic director Mack Rhoades and head football coach Matt Rhule have been as cooperative as the Big 12 could hope.

"He was a tremendous influence on his staff and his players and his university for a very long period of time". "They want continuity, and I think they believe that I'm the right person to go through the process of looking for the right opportunities, optimizing our opportunities and then capitalizing on it from a financial standpoint".

"It varies a little bit from institution to institution based upon how they did in some of our championships, but we distributed a little over $34 million previous year", he said at Ford Center at The Star, the event's new home and the Dallas Cowboys worldwide headquarters. "They are superstars, each one in their own right".
