Mark Freeley, the dog's owner, told NBC New York that he had been taking his dog, Storm, for a walk along PJ Harbor around 8 a.m. Sunday, when Storm jumped into the water to swim after something.

Freeley posted the video of Storm carrying the fawn to land on his Facebook page and has received an overwhelming response.

The video captured the weakened deer begin to run away after being brought to shore but collapsed as Storm followed it.

Freeley started filming when he saw that Storm was desperately trying to drag something back on shore.

"He started nudging it with his nose and started pulling it to make sure she was gonna be OK", Freeley said.

"This time it went out even further", Freeley said.

Freely called an animal rescue group who took the fawn to a veterinarian, where she was deemed to be in good health!

Freeley and Frank Floridia of Strong Island Rescue both waded into the water.

Floridia swam out to retrieve the fawn, which he said is about 3 months old.

Kutzing carried the fawn back to the rescue van.

The fawn was taken to the Save The Animals Rescue (STAR) Foundation. The deer is now being treated and is expected to make a full recovery from the incident.
