Two-month-old Justin-Trudeau Adam Bilal met his namesake at a Calgary Stampede breakfast on Saturday.

The Syrian family are not the only ones to name their baby after the Canadian prime minister.

According to the BBC, the couple had chosen to name their newborn after Mr Trudeau as a gesture of appreciation to their adopted country. Baby Justin Trudeau was born on May 4.

Shortly after Trudeau took office, the Canadian government agreed to accept tens of thousands of Syrian refugees - a move that saw him praised by the worldwide community.

The boy's parents, Afraa Hajj Hammoud and Mohammed Bilal, arrived in Canada in February of 2016 and named their newborn in May.

Mini Trudeau was born in Calgary - a city near the Canadian Rockies which is home to around 1,000 Syrian refugees - in May of this year.

Ms Hammoud told CBC it was an fantastic experience to meet the man who inspired their son's name and who made their new life possible. She added that Mr Trudeau told her at the meeting: "I appreciate that you named him after my name".

Ms Hammoud told CBC, in Syria, boys are usually named after their fathers or grandfathers.

In the midst of US President Donald Trump's immigration ban, Mr Trudeau took to twitter to welcome anyone seeking refuge from war or unrest and offered temporary residency to stranded travellers.

Muhammad and Afraa Bilal arrived in Canada in February a year ago with their two young children after escaping war-torn Syria.
