Jose Mourinho recently admitted that he wants to sign two more players in this transfer window, and there are strong suggestions that Eric Dier of Spurs is one of them.

Finding a new defensive midfielder is the Portuguese's priority despite Michael Carrick signing a new one-year deal.

More importantly, Spurs chief Daniel Levy is unwilling to let any more of his big-name players leave after sanctioning Kyle Walker's £50m switch to Manchester City.

Manchester United's vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, has been given the responsibility to carry out the negotiations, but a deal is far from completion as of now.

Manchester United look set to make one last big push in a bid to convince Tottenham Hotspur into selling with Eric Dier, with reports suggesting that they are considering tabling a final £60m ($78.3m) offer for the versatile England worldwide who is rumoured to be keen on a switch to Old Trafford.

They are also reportedly willing to double Dier's current £70,000-a-week wages and likely offer him the chance to reassert himself in his preferred position as a deep-lying midfielder after a somewhat disappointing 2016-17 campaign at White Hart Lane.
