Romero has made 28 appearances in his two seasons at Old Trafford, although only six of them have come in the Premier League.

Sergio Romero extends contract with Manchester United till 2021.

The contract extension comes amid renewed speculation about a likely bid from Real Madrid for United's first-choice keeper De Gea.

Though the agreement just reached with Sergio Romero won't set the world alight, having such quality in such an important position (particularly given the fleeting speculation surrounding David De Gea's future) is paramount to the success of a club of United's stature.

He has provided stability for United given De Gea has regularly been linked with a big-money move to Real Madrid and nearly left for Spain in the same transfer window in which Romero arrived.

The Portuguese has hailed the Argentina number one as a great goalkeeper and professional, on the eve of his renewal the manager said "Sergio is a great goalkeeper and professional. Sergio deserves his contract, and for Manchester United to have Sergio and David is awesome in such an important role". "Who wouldn't want to be at the biggest club in the world?" said Romero. "We have great goalkeepers here and we are always learning from each other", Romero told the club's official website. "Of course, it was a very proud moment for me and my family to be part of the Europa League final, and I am looking forward to helping the team build on last season's success in 2017/18". The third match against Man City, we don't play Joel.
