Suzuki Motor Corporation has launched new versions of its popular Swift compact auto equipped with hybrid system in Japan.

This hybrid derivative is a lot more different from SHVS-equipped mild ones that were launched before. Powering the Swift Hybrid is a 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns out 89 bhp and is mated to a 10 kW electric motor generator sending power only to the front wheels. This hybrid system automatically stops the internal combustion engine and switches to EV driving when the vehicle is running at a constant speed or creeping in traffic. The vehicle weight is kept within 1,000kg, and it qualifies for eco-car tax breaks in Japan.

The Suzuki Swift Hybrid remains the same in proportions and it is the technology under the hood that has seen a change. Inside the cabin, there is a prominent blue outline to the gear selector and a blue display for the meters with a hybrid indicator showing the power graph.

The auto comes in two variants - Swift Hybrid SG and Swift Hybrid SL.

The new Swift Hybrid also comes with safety features including the Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) collision-mitigating system that features a monocular camera and laser sensor to detect pedestrians and vehicles ahead, curtain airbags and front seat side airbags as standard.

Maruti Suzuki has not given any indication whether the hybrid Swift will come to India. Available on Android and IOS.
