Tata Nexon to get 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel engines

Tata Motors has released a first set of details and a teaser image of its upcoming SUV, the Nexon, which is slated to hit the showrooms in the coming months.

On the occasion, Mayank Pareek, president, passenger vehicles business unit at Tata Motors said, "We are not leaving any stones unturned while we prepare to launch the all new Nexon". These include a new 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel unit.

The four-cylinder diesel engine will offer a maximum power of 110 ps at 3,750 rpm, and a maximum torque of 260 Nm at 1,500-27,50 rpm, while the three-cylinder petrol engine offers a maximum power of 110 ps at 5,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 170 Nm at 2,000-4,000 rpm.

Both engines will sport the first-in-segment multi-drive modes - Eco, City, and Sport. The company also said the engines are light on weight and low on friction, equipped to deliver high performance and fuel economy. The Nexon receives dual-tone touches on its exterior and will come with similar interior quality much like its Tiago and the Tigor compact sedan.

Tata Motors states that powertrains were developed in house at Tata's Pune facility along with inputs from suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahale and Honeywell.

According to Mayank Pareek, president, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, "The engine is the heart of the auto and along with the SUV-like design and features, we wanted to offer punchy, responsive and refined engines".

While the petrol Revotron will be produced at its Sanand facility, the diesel Revotorq will be manufactured at the Ranjangaon plant. Both these engines have been designed and developed after extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains. Tata will manufacture the petrol Revotron engine at its Sanand facility, while the diesel Revotorq motor will be produced at the Ranjangaon plant.

When launched the Tata Nexon is likely to be priced around the Rs 7-10 lakh range.
