Tesla Autopilot being blamed for a Minnesota accident

Tesla has also implemented an automatic "off" feature for autopilot.

If you're not familiar with Tesla Autopilot, it's Tesla's autonomous driving feature that is created to assist the driver of the vehicle.

Clark told deputies that when he engaged the Autopilot feature, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, left the roadway and overturned in a marsh.

The company has not yet responded to the request for information on if drivers and purchasers of Tesla vehicles receive some sort of training to use the feature.

Tesla is very careful about its Autopilot feature warning drivers against misuse and use of the system. Tesla said it hasn't yet established whether the vehicle's Autopilot feature was engaged, but it has no reason to believe it worked other than as designed.

Tesla's Autopilot function is considered an SAE Level 2 autonomous system, meaning the auto will accelerate and steer on its own, but the driver is expected to remain alert and intervene if necessary. "Be prepared to take over at any time". The Washington Post has reported that Tesla does require drivers to keep their hands on the steering wheel even while the feature is engaged, however. It then gradually slows down the auto until hands-on is detected again.

Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, recently said at the National Governor's Association semi-annual meeting that "Probably in 10 years, more than a half of new vehicle production is electric in the US.I think nearly all cars produced will be autonomous".
