"We're pleased he's here, he's a good addition", said Pulis.

The 26-year-old has been a regular with Egypt since 2011, with 39 caps being won for his country during that time. Hopefully he'll be a good signing for us.

Albion club chairman John Williams also added: "We're delighted to add Ahmed to the squad".

Hegazi, who has 39 worldwide caps, has been with Al Ahly in his home country for the past two seasons after an unsuccessful stint at Italian top flight club Fiorentina.

"With it being a loan and, if he does well, we've already agreed a final deal". "He caught our eye at the African championships and we've been tracking him ever since".

Hegazi has moved to the Hawthorns on a year-long loan but West Brom have the option to make it a permanent deal. It's really, really good for us'.

The 6ft 5in defender passed his medical before heading out to Hong Kong to join up with his new team-mates ahead of this week's Premier League Asia Trophy.

Hegazy will be the fourth Egyptian player in the English Premier League next season alongside Arsenal's midfielder Mohamed Elneny, Stoke City's winger Ramadan Sobhy and Liverpool's newly signed winger Mohamed Salah.

He returned to his homeland with Al Ahly, where he has spent the last two seasons.
