Ten years after his first Wimbledon title, Jamie Murray enjoyed success again in the mixed doubles on Sunday alongside Martina Hingis.

Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis have never played competitively as a team but have joined up at the request of the Swiss woman and were given the No1 seed in the mixed doubles.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge led a large royal contingent at Wimbledon yesterday on a momentous day for British sport - when tennis fans watched Jamie Murray beat Heather Watson in the mixed doubles final, dubbed the "Battle of the Brits".

For Murray, it was a second Wimbledon mixed doubles title, 10 years after his first, and his fourth Slam win overall, to add to his two men's doubles titles with Bruno Soares.

"It obviously took me a long time to get a second one", Murray said in his press conference following the match.

The duo had both previously won the title playing with different partners, Murray with Jelena Jankovic in 2007 and Hingis with Leander Paes in 2015.

The Finn and the Brit are defending champions after Watson secured her first ever Grand Slam title in any format in this very event previous year. I'm not used to no!

"This was pretty sweet and I have to give huge thanks to Martina".

With some enterprising wag in the crowd not quite knowing who to support, so shouting out a 'Come On All of You, ' it was at times a bit of a Murrray masterclass, bringing up the first break before Hingis let the side down for Watson and Kontinen to break back straight away. I knew I could do well with her.

But each was saved and when Watson flashed wide a smash, all that was left was for a booming Murray serve to finish off. I'm really happy how we played.

Depending on the stage of a player's career, though, mixed doubles can be more than just the chance to top up the bank balance. 'I think he just waited in the lockers. Murray and Hingis have yet to discuss future plans but it seems likely they will defend their title next summer and they may even play together in the US Open later this summer.
