Alec Baldwin will star as Colonel Nathan Jessup is NBC's upcoming live production of A Few Good Men from Oscar and Emmy victor Aaron Sorkin.

Nominated last week for two Primetime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of President Donald Trump on "Saturday Night Live", Baldwin will play Col. Nathan Jessep, the character protrayed by Jack Nicholson in the 1992 feature film adapted from Aaron Sorkin's play. "He will put his own inimitable stamp on the role of Col. Jessep in a play that is still as surprising and relevant as ever, from one of the most gifted writers working today", said NBC Entertainment Chief Bob Greenblatt. Aaron Sorkin will executive produce and adapt the play, which he wrote, for TV.

Baldwin, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron also will be executive producers on the telecast.

NBC, which has scored success with live musicals like "The Sound of Music" and "Peter Pan" is turning its attention to drama.

NBC's production of A Few Good Men will be a break from the string of live musicals that the network has aired since 2014.

In a statement, Sorkin said, "Alec is one of our greatest actors". Sorkin will be writing the teleplay for the NBC production. Having him play this role - live onstage for a television audience - is a dream come true.

In 2018, we need Alec Baldwin on that wall. He also now hosts NBC's The Match Game, and has discussed returning to Saturday Night Live to continue his Trump impression after saying he was retiring it. On Easter Sunday, it will offer a live production of Jesus Christ Superstar. "This will be a brand new take on Nathan Jessep and I expect that Alec is going to bust through TV screens and right into living rooms", added Sorkin.
