Metro Detroit woman child identified in deadly distracted driving crash

Monroe County authorities say a pickup truck driven by Todd Moyer struck the rear of a vehicle Friday on USA 23 in southeastern MI.

A metro Detroit woman and her 5-year-old daughter who were killed in a distracted driving crash on US-23 Friday night have been identified. Johnson was driving southbound in a 2010 Hyundai Elantra when it was rear ended on US-23 by a 2007 Dodge Ram.

Gladys and Za-Kira Johnson of Redford Township were killed in the crash about 2:20 p.m. Friday on southbound USA 23 north of Summerfield Road in Summerfield Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts.

The collision survivors refused medical treatment at the scene.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Traffic Services Bureau continues to investigate the accident.

Alcohol wasn't a factor.

The 37-year-old Moyer couldn't be reached for comment Monday.
