The attacker of the Ottawa Senators Jean-Gabriel Pageau has agreed a three-year contract and $ 9.3 million on Monday, avoiding the process of salary arbitration.

Pageau will make $2.6 million in the first year, $3.3 million in the second and $3.4 in the third.

"I wasn't totally sure how the talks were going but I knew that they were going well", Pageau told the team's website. He's hit the 19-goal mark once, but never quite made it across the 20-goal threshold, and a disappointing 12 goals and 33 points in an 82-game campaign previous year likely left the team wanting to keep things in the $3-million range. The 24-year-old's best performance came in Game 2 of the second-round series versus the New York Rangers, capping a four-goal outburst by scoring in overtime of a 6-5 victory.

"He showed that he's definitely deserving of this contract and any player that has a history of raising his game, whether it was in junior playoffs or (the American Hockey League) playoffs or NHL playoffs, I think you have to give credit for what he's accomplished".

The term of the Pageau contract will likely be another aspect that Toronto will try to get in the deal with Brown.

Selected by the Senators in the fourth round (No. 96) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Pageau has 101 points (45 goals, 56 assists) in 251 games, all with Ottawa.
