Paul Pierce is ending his Hall of Fame worthy career where it all started. "He is among the very best Celtics - a champion on and off the court", said Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck. Pierce elected to return for a 19th season and had an emotional final game at TD Garden in February, saying it felt like his true National Basketball Association sendoff.

Pierce spent 15 seasons with the Celtics and helped lead them to a world championship victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in 2008. "We congratulate Paul on a Hall of Fame career, and look forward to seeing his number raised to the rafters of TD Garden".

In February, in his final game in Boston, Pierce drained a 3-pointer, bringing the TD Garden crowd to a state of exuberance.

The Celtics tweeted shots of Pierce signing his contract in Danny Ainge's office on Monday afternoon.

"It's an honor to have this opportunity to once again call myself a Boston Celtic", Pierce said in the team's press release. As he's now retiring following his signing, Pierce pointed out that, "I'm a Celtic for life".

Pierce also retires in the organization's Top 10 lists in games played (1,102, 3rd), minutes played (40,360, 3rd), field goals (7,882, 3rd), field goal attempts (17,630, 2nd), 3-point field goal attempts (4,928, 1st), free throw attempts (7,979, 1st), offensive rebounds (1,008, 8th), rebounds (6,651, 7th), assists (4,305, 5th) and blocked shots (668, 4th). Pierce trails only John Havliceck for the most years spent in a Celtics uniform.
