Zimbabwe President Mugabe's wife slightly injured in car accident

"His Excellency the President, accompanied by Mr (Simba) and Mrs (Bona) Chikore, was with the First Lady throughout the examination, treatment and subsequent discharge".

The ZBC also reporters that Mrs. Mugabe suffered minor injuries in an accident involving the presidential motorcade soon after the 93 year-old returned home.

"The sudden movement of the vehicle saw Amai (Mrs) Mugabe withdraw her foot from the auto, and as she lost her balance, one shoe came off and was run over by a rear wheel", the paper said.

In a statement explaining the Grace Mugabe injury, presidential spokesman George Charamba said; "First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe, suffered some soft tissue bruising on the right ankle as a result of a freak vehicle incident at the Harare International Airport early this morning".

According to State media reports, the first incident occurred as the couple were leaving the airport for their plush private Harare home.

"The examining doctors confirmed that she suffered no major injury", Charamba said.

Meanwhile, the Mugabes' return was certainly incident-filled, as one of the presidential motorcade's motorcycle escorts was injured after his motorbike rammed into a vehicle along Harare's main airport road. "At the time of her discharge, which was about an hour later, she complained of pain from the hurt ankle".

No civilian harm was reported and the police officer is expected to make a full recovery.
