A NASCAR win for Brad Keselowski would make MI even more special

Rochester Hills native Brad Keselowski won the pole position Friday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway for Sunday's running of the Pure Michigan 400. He traversed the 2-mile oval in 35.451 seconds, with an average speed of 203.097 miles per hour. It was his second pole of the season and the 14th of his Cup Series career.

Five of the last eight pole sitters have gone on to win the race at MIS, a track at which Keselowski has never reached Victory Lane in NASCAR's top series. "We had a strong suspicion that those guys would kind of tune it down this weekend, so not to post a pretty big number in inspection that maybe balanced back out the competition, and potentially that's right because our team hasn't done much differently and those guys are just not as fast as they've been the last few weeks".

However, his two races this season have been won from the pole position, so it would be a first in the 2017 season if he ends up pulling off his third consecutive win at MI and fourth on 2.0-mile ovals after starting on the inside of Row 5 on Sunday. Over the past seven races, he has just two finishes inside the top 22, and he is now on a streak of three consecutive finishes of 23rd place or lower.
