Chelsea have not followed-up rejected lowball offer for Drinkwater

Still, the Blues could offer the 27-year-old greater wages, as well as another chance to play in the UEFA Champions League.

The Blues have been reported to have a strong interest in the Leicester City midfielder, having already made an initial £15 million bid, which, as you'd expect, was rejected by the Foxes. If Chelsea can get Drinkwater, then he will reunite with ex-Leicester star Ngolo Kanté.

Last summer, N'Golo Kante completed a sensational move to join Chelsea and Leicester have been struggling without the midfielder.

"We don't want to be a selling club, we want to add to it", Shakespeare was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

It's somewhat surprising Drinkwater would want to go from an established starter with the Foxes to perhaps spending most of his time on the bench at Chelsea.

The likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy have also had suitors in the recent past and it would not be a surprise if there was renewed interest in them ahead of the August 31 deadline. The former also has only 12 months remaining on his current deal and has asked for a move away from Goodison Park.

But he is interested in a move to the Premier League champions and BetStars have slashed their odds on the transfer happening.

The Telegraph say Chelsea tabled an initial offer of £15m for the England global some weeks ago but have not followed up with an improved bid.

Earlier this week, Mahrez admitted his future was in his club's hands.

"They are a great club who I would like to talk to but I can't until Leicester accept a deal".

"That's every manager's nightmare", he said.

"He hasn't given me one problem where I've had to pull him to the side and say, 'Oi, pull your finger out.' Until we get a bid that is reasonable for Leicester, he will stay".
