Day thanks Johnson for 'most clutch thing' at US PGA

At 12-over par, Rod Pampling knew there wasn't to be a weekend of golf at the PGA Championship this year.

In association with PGA tour rules, if one ball is in play and the weather horn is heard, the playing group can determine whether they would like to finish the hole.

Had the horn blown before Johnson had struck his drive, the players would have faced a very early start on day three to conclude the round.

Day threw his arm around the neck of world number one Johnson and laughed in glee as they rushed down the fairway.

"I was hugging him".

"On 17 I was off the green. And we were walking up, and we were talking about like if we can get a tee shot on 18, we could finish the round", Day explained.

Those words weren't it either, as Day gave Johnson a hug going down 18 as well.

"And DJ [Johnson] is like, 'I'll do it.' And I'm like, 'That's great'".

For Jason Day, the scene at the 18th was a flashback to his youth, and the boyish hug he gave Dustin Johnson as they hurried down the fairway was pure joy over sneaking in a last hole as darkness fell.

Day added: "As soon as he teed off, we all kind of flushed it down 18". "And I just walked up to him and said, "That's the biggest, or most clutch thing I've ever seen anyone do for me". Obviously to be able to finish and not have to wake up at 5:30 (A.M.) tomorrow, get some rest".

"To be able to get that extra sleep and relax a little bit in the afternoon; it goes for Henrik, and Dustin, as well".
