Roberto Aguayo waived by Buccaneers after bad preseason game

The Buccaneers' second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft missed an extra point and a field-goal attempt in Tampa Bay's preseason-opening loss to the Bengals on Friday. The Bucs had turned to young kickers in each of the previous two seasons, with first-year player Pat Murray in 2014 and rookie Kyle Brindza in 2015; Brindza struggled enough that he was released and replaced by veteran Connor Barth a month later.

After quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick hit paydirt from six yards out to give Tampa its first touchdown, Aguayo lined up...and missed the extra point. You just have to keep your head up and move onto the next day.

"Well, that's something that will definitely be talked about, " Koetter said, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

"I keep saying it and I can't say it anymore".

Asked if he thought he may have cost himself a job with Friday's performance, Aguayo said, "You wanted to come out and be flawless". "You're a kicker, you gotta make your kicks". I hit some good kickoffs. I've just got to put it in the past.

Nick Folk, who was signed in the offseason to compete with Aguayo, made his only field-goal attempt Friday night, a 45-yarder.

Aguayo also stunk it up in the early going past year, missing an extra point in the Bucs' first preseason game and two field goals in their second. "It's a new day".

I couldn't have said it better myself, Dirk.

Aguayo entered the game ahead of Folk on the team's depth chart, but clearly his performance cause the team to make the decision to cut him. The Colts released Peyton F'ing Manning and the Vikings declined an option to retain Adrian Peterson. And they get going in a direction, sometimes they can't even find out where they were originally.
