Four former Premier League winners offer their reasons why clubs struggle to retain the trophy and how Manchester United bucked the trend with their run of success.

"But [Conte] spoke about him in such a way about his incredible importance to the job they did past year - Matic and N'Golo Kante in front of that back three - and I have no doubt that he has not sanctioned that move, he is not happy with it and ultimately he is uncomfortable with it".

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says Victor Lindelof is capable of playing in central midfield this season.

"When a player leaves a club, you do not normally see a manager speak so glowingly about them", the former England worldwide told Sky Sports. "He is probably the best in England alongside N'Golo Kante".

"Chelsea have broken up that partnership and strengthened their rivals". Is Tiemoue Bakayoko, a £35million signing, a similar type of player to Matic? Bakayoko has not and I saw him in the Champions League previous year.

But Wright said the Blues appeared to be in a worse position compared to last season due to the extent of upheaval in the squad that won the Premier League title. "But we can take a lot of good things from this game".

The 23-year-old struggled in stages of United's pre-season but Mourinho insists the Sweden worldwide will be given enough time to settle in at the club.

"This season, I think the transfer window has gone good for them".

"He did well as Chelsea won the league previous year, but he didn't go back to the level of 2014/15 and Cesc Fabregas was playing a lot more in the second half of last season".

Neville also believes the sale will improve the players already at United, with Matic's new midfield colleagues set to benefit.

United get their new Premier League campaign underway when they host West Ham on Sunday, with Mourinho's side looking for a win after they were beaten by Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.
