An MS-13 member wanted in connection with a 2011 murder that landed him on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitive " list has been arrested in Virginia, officials said. Authorities say Matute was Gomez's friend, and allegedly was a member of the Plainfield Locos Salvatrucha crew, a New Jersey branch of the notorious criminal network.

"The apprehension of Walter Yovany Gomez is a prime example of the close coordination between the vigilant public and the hard working men and women of law enforcement", Timothy Gallagher, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Newark Office, said.

As indicated by a Federal Bureau of Investigation news discharge, a government capture warrant was issued for Gomez in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, Newark, in September 2013, after he was accused of brutal wrongdoing in help of racketeering, which conveys a compulsory life sentence.

But Gomez got away, and he was charged in September 2013 with violent crime in aid of racketeering.

Prosecutors say that after a night of partying Gomez and an accomplice beat Matute with a baseball bat, stabbed him 17 times with a knife and then slit his throat with a screwdriver. MS-13 group individuals are accepted to have carried Gomez to Maryland after the murder.

Gomez' cohort, who was also an MS-13 member, was caught and convicted.

Gomez was first put on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list back in April, with the department offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to his arrest.

Gomez is believed to affiliated with the gang MS-13, as was his victim Julio Matute. It is not known whether anyone will assert it, or how precisely Gomez was captured.

Back in July, President Donald Trump visited Long Island, New York, where MS-13 have been linked to 17 murders since January 2017, and called the gang out for turning "peaceful parks and handsome quiet neighborhoods into bloodstained killing fields". "They rape and they rob", Trump said.
