Hizbul Mujahideen Operational Commander Killed During Encounter In Kashmir's Shopian

The three slain militants were locals belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.

While security personnel were conducting searches, the terrorists opened fire triggering a fierce gunbattle that went on for hours.

The Indian armed forces registered yet another success in their fight against terrorism when a top Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in encounter. He was among the three militants gunned down by the Kashmir police. Itoo was held responsible for instigating the violence in the Valley after the killing of militant Burhan Wani previous year. In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks, paid homage to the martyrs, as did representatives and officials from the state government and other security agencies.

Five army soldiers were injured in the gunfight.

On Saturday afternoon, the Army, police and CRPF had launched the operation in Awneera hamlet, around 15 km from Shopian town, after receiving inputs about the presence of militants. Two injured soldiers later succumbed to critical injuries. He was also involved in bank robbery case of PS Yaripora.

Irate crowds clashed with the security forces at several places in the area during and after the encounter. "Irfan-ul-Haq was involved in many cases including grenade attacks and firing on security personnel". In wake of the encounter, authorities have blocked internet services in Shopian district and other sensitive parts of south Kashmir. Ilayaraja comes from Kandani village in Tamil Nadu whereas Waman was from Lonagra village in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, two J&K policemen Mukhtar Ahmed and Muhammad Ashraf and an Army jawan Raj Kumar were injured when the militants opened fire at a joint search party when it entered Wahab, Parray Mohalla in Hajin area of northern Bandipore district on Sunday, officials said.
