Leeds United reportedly line up German striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga as a potential replacement for Chris Wood.

English newspapers reported that Burnley manager Sean Dyche wanted Wood to replace Andre Gray, who Burnley sold to EPL rivals Watford for $32 million.

Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen said following his side's 0-0 draw with Preston North End on Saturday that he wants Wood to stay put.

"Many bids can come, of course, he is a good striker".

The New Zealand worldwide Wood netted 27 goals in the Championship last season, finishing as the League's top goal scorer and now Burnley are looking to sign him to replace Andre Gray.

"We know how much power the players have these days, if you look at Coutinho and what has happened", Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds. "If we want to go up, we need to keep good players".

It was his nose for goal that has seen him monitored by other Premier League outfits, such as Southampton, Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Stoke.

Wood joined West Brom as a teenager and made his sole EPL appearance for the Midlands club as a 17-year-old in 2009.

Wood, who showed flashes of the talent that has piqued the EPL clubs' interest, came close to scoring in the final stages but was foiled by an excellent save by PNE keeper Chris Maxwell, who kept his club in the hunt with a string of important interventions.
