This year's tournament saw 18 teams from six regions - North America, China, Europe, Southeast Asia, CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and South America - competing in The International, which is often dubbed the "World Cup" of Dota 2.

Now, however, one of eSports' most iconic franchises has claimed Dota 2's biggest prize, as Team Liquid emerged as the winning side of The International 7, taking home over $10 million United States dollars in prize money for its victory.

Newbee originally entered the tournament as one of the Chinese favorites to win, given its consistent, strong presence throughout the competitive season.

The victor of the Lower Bracket Finals will face Newbee. After all, LFY took down Newbee 2-0 in the group stage, and the upper bracket 2-1 Newbee victory was hard-fought.

It has been a record-setting day for Liquid in many respects, as the team also became the first squad to ever win a Grand Finals at The International in a sweep.

For as easy as Team Liquid might have made it look toward the end of The International 7, however, the journey to the Grand Finals was incredibly hard. For instance, about half an hour into the second game, the Alchemist played by Amer "Miracle-" Al-Barkawi began to ruthlessly slice into Newbee's base, taking an aggressively objective-focused approach to the situation.

Liquid beat Newbee in a dominant 3-0 set in TI7's final best of five series. Liquid came out swinging in game one, taking all of Newbee's outer towers before 20 minutes and forcing a GG shortly after.

In the final game, a series of incredibly coordinated slam-downs by Liquid were the highlights that might have won the European squad the grand prize. This proved a somewhat redemptive arc for the team, after a series of lower-than-expected results over the history of The International and an early exit past year. It won't be an easy match for either team.
