Zarif, UN Envoy Discuss Yemen Crisis

In a meeting in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the visiting UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed discussed the latest developments in the country.

Jaberi Ansari, while expressing his concern over the severe humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the support of UN's efforts to end the Yemeni war and crisis, presented the proposed framework of the Islamic Republic of Iran to solve the political crisis in Yemen and the principles that must be taken to resolve the issues.

The UN envoy arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Saturday to discuss the Yemeni conflict with Iranian officials.

During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat said the Islamic Republic supports all efforts by the United Nations aimed at putting an end to the war in crisis-hit Yemen.

The two sides also exchanged views on new ideas for create openings in the current political deadlock.

In the meeting in Tehran, the United Nations envoy and the Iranian diplomat explored avenues for the settlement of the conflicts in Yemen.

Yemen has been facing war by a Saudi-led coalition since March 2015.

Iran has repeatedly called for a swift end to the brutal Saudi-led military campaign.
