Despite the fact that he was a stalwart in Chelsea's title winning side last season, the Blues made the rather odd decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United over the summer.

His performance led Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville to describe Chelsea's decision to sell him to United as "strange" and came after Antonio Conte had described him as a "great loss".

Not only has the Serbian contributed defensively, but his attacking runs have gave United another dimension in midfield, with one moment in particular leaving Old Trafford "oohing and aahing".

So far, so good for Jose Mourinho's side.

A double from Romelu Lukaku and goals from Paul Pogba and substitute Anthony Martial got United's league campaign off to an emphatic and memorable start.

Following Matic's Man of the Match performance, the Manchester Evening News report Mourinho said: "It depends on what is happening or what was happening behind doors and we don't know".

The Serbian has won every aerial duel during the opening 45 minutes as well as every dribble.

"The only thing I know is that, of course, with Chelsea money, but I brought him to Stamford Bridge because I thought he was a player with special qualities and since I left I always thought he could be a ideal player for us".

Alan Pardew and Graeme Souness also weighed in on the debate and it's fair to say that all three members of the Sky Sports panel were in unanimous bemusement with regard to the midfielder's summer move.
