A new TV drama series is in the works from the co-writer and executive producer of the Academy Award-winning Best Picture "Moonlight".

Based on McCraney's own life, the drama "follows a 14-year-old prodigy from the projects haunted by the death of his closest friend who must choose between the streets that raised him or the higher education that may offer him a way out". Jordan will also serve as executive producer on the Warner Horizon Scripted Television series via his Outlier Productions banner, alongside Page Fright's Mike Kelley and Melissa Loy.

"When Tarell shared his powerful story with us there wasn't a dry eye in the room", Winfrey said of the new drama series.

"I wanted to explore the pivotal steps towards adulthood and identity, the ones we take when we think or feel we have no other choice", McCraney said in a statement.

Tarell Alvin McCraney, the Oscar victor who shared the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for "Moonlight" this year along with director Barry Jenkins, is coming to television with a coming-of-age drama that sounds right in the wheelhouse of the acclaimed Best Picture victor. McCraney, who was born and grew up in Liberty City, will create, write and executive produce the show, working with actor Michael B. Jordan ("Fruitvale Station", "Creed"), who will also act as an executive producer. McCraney now serves as the chair of playwriting at the Yale School of Drama.

The McCraney drama will join OWN's recently picked up dramedy series Love Is _ from Mara Brock Akil, Salim Akil and Warner Horizon, along with current series Queen Sugar and Greenleaf, both just renewed for third seasons, and Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots and If Loving You Is Wrong.

McCraney is represented by CAA, Corinne Hayoun at MANAGE-MENT, and attorney Tara Kole at Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown.
