When Nina Dobrev left her star-making role as Elena on The Vampire Diaries in 2015, fans were shook.

"If anything, the fact that [leaving] terrified me drove me even more", she explained. "I needed to feel that fear of 'Oh, my God, what if I never get a job again?' That just made me want to work five times as hard to make sure that didn't happen", she explained.

In addition to learning that she didn't have to take every role tossed at her, Dobrev explained that she had some trepidation associated with playing a teenager the rest of her life. Up until this point, she has often played far younger than a woman pushing the age of 30.

She rescued me as much as I rescued her.

According to E! News, leaving the series that gave her the biggest break of her career was "considered an incredible risk" if not "potentially career suicide". During an interview Harper's Bazaar, the Degrassi alum admitted that "the things I want to do aren't necessarily the things that are expected of me".

From rock climbing to skydiving, Dobrev revealed that she is not afraid of a little adventure.

While fans are screaming for more Dobrev all the time, the actress, who has two more movies in the works, including Departures, is being really smart about her acting future.

"I have a healthy - or possibly unhealthy - obsession with trying things for the first time". She is now filming "Departures" and will next appear in "Flatliners", which is scheduled for a September release.

"Plus, unlike skydiving, you can see the rocks clearly and imagine what would happen if you went splat", she added.

"They call 'Action, ' they light my arm on fire, I have to act like I'm on fire - which I am - and react to the scariness of it, which wasn't too hard", she said with a laugh.
