Kyle Busch started and ended the week unbeatable at Bristol Motor Speedway. Jones is taking Kenseth's spot with Joe Gibbs Racing after the season, and the two briefly rubbed fenders while trying to keep up with Busch. He lost some ground in traffic but clean air at the end of the race allowed him to get a gap of 1.422 seconds. Larson coasted from there, earning his third straight MI victory and ending a slump of three straight races outside the top 20.

"You're never comfortable", Elliott said.

"It's awesome. I appreciate that", Busch said after learning of Larson's compliment.

Busch won the 85-lap first stage and during the stage ending caution pitted for fuel and tires. "We weren't good and we weren't going to fix it on pit road either".

A pattern has emerged with Kyle Busch this week at Bristol Motor Speedway. It put Jones in the middle of a weird JGR sandwich. But there were a number of strong cars starting in front of him, led by rookie Erik Jones who led the field to the green flag.

Hamlin eventually took position from Kenseth, but it was so obviously a night for Toyota. Busch earned 53 points for the win and moved into second place in the overall point standings, trailing Martin Truex Jr.by 101 points.

At 32 years old, Busch certainly has a legitimate chance to surpass the record held by the King.

"Didn't remember. Shouldn't have brought it up".

But Kenseth really was OK with his situation.

Austin Dillon has 9/1 odds to win tonight. "I'd be happier if I would have won, but yeah, I'm pretty happy", he smiled.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 13th, one lap down, in his first Xfinity start since winning at Richmond in April 2016. He wasn't a factor in the Xfinity Series race, needed IV's on Friday night for dehydration, and was an uncompetitive 23rd in the Cup race. When Busch gets closer to Richard Petty's mark of 200 wins, the debate between the accomplishments will be a conversation worth having even if all of Petty's wins came in what's now known as NASCAR's Cup Series. "We built our team from the ground up this season", the driver said of his new ride. It's just unfortunate we didn't have it. "You can always get caught up in somebody else's mess here, so that's the hardest thing".

UP NEXT: NASCAR's top series is off next weekend for the final break of the season. Next race: Bojangles' Southern 500, September 3, Darlington Raceway, Darlington, South Carolina.
