Nigeria claimed a 2-0 win over Benin in the return leg of the 2018 CAF Championship of African Nations qualifier at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Saturday.

Leading scorers in the NPFL, Stephen Odey and Alhassan Ibrahim "Muazzam", will play on the flanks to compliment a strike force of Kingsley Eduwo and Rabiu Ali.

The Super Eagles were aware that an early goal could boost their morale as they wanted to avenge the 1-0 loss at Stade l'Amitie last week.

Only two minutes into the second half, the goal that took Nigeria ahead in the fixture finally arrived, as Eduwo rose highest to nod home from a superb cross by Osas Okoro. In the 65 minute, Nigeria had a big scare when Referee Joaquin Esono Eyang from Equatorial Guinea awarded the visitors a penalty as a Nigerian defender was adjudged to have handled the ball.

The Benin side got a lifeline when they won a penalty but Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa dived in the right direction and made the save to make sure the score remained unchanged.

The Eagles frisked for more goals but none came.

CHAN Eagles hanged on to their lead to secure their spot for the Africa Nations Championship which will be hosted by Kenya.
