Four Killed in Explosion at South Korean Shipyard

Four workers were killed yesterday in an explosion at an oil tanker being built in the plant, authorities said. The fire agency recovered the bodies of the victims.

"I heard a "bang" and saw smoke coming from the tanker", a witness told Yonhap news agency. South Korea is one of the world's largest shipbuilders.

The carrier was anchored some 250 meters from the front gate of the plant.

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding is a Korean shipyard company focusing on small and mid-sized ship constructions.

Changwon Coast Guard said the explosion may have occurred due to oil vapor.
