Kenyan neighbours, Uganda booked their place in 2018 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) while defending champions, DR Congo were locked out by neighbor Congo Brazzaville.

But it was not enough as Rwanda missed out on a ticket to the finals tournament, leaving Uganda, who had won the first leg 3-0 a week earlier in Kampala, to represent the Eastern and Central African Zone along with Sudan and the hosts Kenya.

April attacking midfielder Yannick Mukunzi gave Rwanda the lead after eight minutes from a corner before defender Thierry Manzi headed in the second goal in the 16th minute. But the Cranes fought to defend in numbers at the Nyamirambo stadium.

The hosts dominated the game, but Uganda's goalkeeper Ismeal Watenga made several saves.

Rwanda scored their two goals in the opening 16 minute through Yannick Mukunzi in the 8th minute before Thierry Manzi doubles the lead eight minutes later. "But I'm thankful for the boys to hold on against a very physical Rwandan side". It was all celebration by over 500 traveling Ugandan fans after the final whistle.

It was good to score two early goals, but we failed to add another.

Antoine Hey, the Rwanda coach said he was disappointed that his players failed to convert many more scoring chances.

It is the fourth straight time Uganda Cranes is qualifying for the CHAN competition after playing at the 2011 (Sudan), 2014 (South Africa) and 2016 (Rwanda) events.
