It will air on Sky 1 and NOW TV.

Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer are set to star in the television adaptation of the novel, A Discovery of Witches. Palmer stars as an historian and reluctant witch, denying her heritage, whose discovery of a manuscript throws her into the heart of a unsafe mystery and into the path of an enigmatic geneticist (Goode), who is a vampire.

The adaptation, which has been in development at Bad Wolf for more than a year before recently landing at Sky, was penned by Kate Brooke, who will also serve as showrunner.

Juan Carlos Medina, whose film "The Limehouse Golem" opens in the United Kingdom and September, will direct the series from an adaptation by showrunner Kate Brooke ("Mr Selfridge").

"Commenting on the commission, Mensah said: "'A Discovery of Witches" is a proper love story for grown-ups.

United Kingdom satcaster Sky has commissioned a drama series, A Discovery of Witches, for its linear and over-the-top services from Bad Wolf. However, the fact that it also examines science, magic, and being "other' in the modern world makes it a must-watch. With the breathtaking vision of director Juan Carlos Medina and the Bad Wolf team, I feel very confident we are offering our customers something truly magical".

"The show is a relationship drama, grounded in emotional truth. And if you're a vampire and a witch - those differences are huge". Deborah Harkness and Kate Brooke have given us a drama that packs both an emotional and thought-provoking punch. Sky Vision will handle global sales.
