Barcelona pulled out of signing Jean-Michael Seri from Nice after the French club demanded €50m for the midfielder, it has been claimed.

Barcelona have now made the 26-year-old their main target, as they believe they can sign the midfielder if they activate the valuation clause agreed between Seri and Nice.

However, it looks like the English duo could be about to miss out as the report is citing Mundo Deportivo as saying that Barcelona are now closing-in on a deal to sign Seri.

At Barcelona, the disastrous summer continues.

However, what has been holding up the deal, which has been in the works for over a week now, is the negotiation over a transfer fee for the Ivory Coast global.

"It was possible to reach an agreement as Barcelona and Nice were negotiating", he told RAC1.

"We must wait and see what happens; at the moment I am a Nice player and we will see what happens later".

The Partenopei dominated their Champions League play-off, winning 4-0 on aggregate, and could comfortably have had more goals.

"Napoli are a great side who play really fluid football", Seri said. "I'll be at Amiens on Saturday", he said.

Mundo Deportivo, under the headline "No to Seri", say the £36m deal was nearly done, however coaches at Barca put the brakes on the move.

The Catalan club had informed Liverpool that their third offer, which the Merseysiders rejected last week, would be their last.

Was internal Barcelona politics to blame?

Perhaps Arsenal or PSG will come back in for Seri?
