The City Police foiled the "Mangaluru Chalo" bike rally organised by BJP Yuva Morcha from Mysuru to Mangaluru, here this morning. The denial led to arguments between the police and and BJP leaders.

Several party leaders including state BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa are expected to address the rally.

Thousands of BJP workers who had gathered at Jyoti Circle were on their way to the DC office 3 km away when they were bundled into buses and taken into custody. They accused the Congress government of protecting the assailants. "How many more will be killed under the Congress rule?"

The youth wing of the saffron party will on Thursday planned to carry out a motorcycle rally "Mangalore Chalo" in Karnataka's Mangaluru to protest the alleged killings of the Hindu activists in the coastal districts of the state.

"Permission was not granted to hold the rally as it would cause traffic problems and it would become extremely hard to maintain law and order in the city".

New Home Minister of the state, Ramalinga Reddy, on Tuesday said any kind of rallies will be allowed in the state which are peaceful, News 18 reported. "We demand an NIA probe into their deaths", Yeddyurappa added.

After a public meeting at Nehru ground permitted by the District Authorities, the agitators marched towards Jyothi ground to hold Bike Rally for which permission was denied and prohibitory orders were clamped in the city as precautionary measure.

The Mangaluru Police Commissioner said that permission was granted for the public gathering between 11am and 2pm. "Hence, we had to detain them", the DCP added.
