Blast near cricket stadium in Kabul during league match

Local media reports said the bomber detonated his explosives at a security check point outside the Kabul International Cricket Stadium.

The explosion happened at about 3.45pm on Wednesday afternoon.

It is reported the blast occured at the gates of the stadium.

A security source confirmed that two security personnel in a check post located close to the stadium lost their lives in the attack and some others including security personnel and civilians were wounded.

The match was halted immediately after the news of the explosion reached the match officials.

Cricket officials said that all the cricket players were safe. The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack.

Cricket, which spread from refugee camps in Pakistan, has become one of Afghanistan's most popular sports and the national team has become increasingly successful, raising the profile of the game.
