Ed Skrein exited the "Hellboy" reboot in August following whitewashing backlash, and now Variety reports that Lionsgate is in talks with Daniel Dae Kim to replace him.

Skrein is popularly known for his role in "Deadpool" as the bad guy named Ajax then just recently, it was revealed that he will be playing Major Ben Daimio in "Hellboy" reboot.

Skrein stepped down last month "so the role can be cast appropriately".

In the Hellboy comics, Daimio works for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense and is portrayed as a Japanese-American man.

Skrein gave up his role as Major Ben Daimo to not "obscure ethnic minority stories and voices in the arts". "I feel it is important to honour and respect that", he said in a statement.Kim is Korean-American, and the actor is no stranger to standing up for his beliefs.

"It was not our intent to be insensitive to issues of authenticity and ethnicity, and we will look to recast the part with an actor more consistent with the character in the source material". Kim and Grace Park left Hawaii Five-O earlier this summer after CBS refused to meet their demands for a 10-15% salary bump, which would have brought their pay up to match that of their white co-stars.

"The path to equality is rarely easy", he wrote in a lengthy Facebook post in which he encouraged his fans "to look beyond the disappointment of this moment to the bigger picture". It's upsetting that Kim and Park had to leave their show in that way, and just as disappointing that a white actor had to take a stand for Kim to even be considered for this role.
