Kathie Lee Gifford's mother, Joan Epstein, has died aged 87, the Today host announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

About her late mom, Gifford said she was the "sunniest" person she has ever know, perhaps except Hoda, 'because who is happier than Hoda?'

Kathie Lee, who spoke to her mother on the phone every morning before she went on air, shared how her mom recently told her about getting taken to be weighed at the home where she lived. "We praise God for His promise of eternal life & we thank God for her", Gifford, 64, wrote.

The official Instagram account for Gifford and her "Today" co-host Hota Kotb posted a photo of Gifford and Epstein.

Joan passed away two years after Kathie Lee's husband died as well, back in August of 2015.

Today show's Jenna Bush Hager expressed her condolences to the Gifford family, tweeting: "Sending you love".

Gifford's 24-year-old daughter Cassidy, who is also an actress and has starred in "The Gallows" and "God's Not Dead" among others, also paid tribute to her grandmother. "Just like Frank, I believe she saw Jesus and Jesus took her breath away". "I left home when I was 17 years old to pursue my career, and [my mom and dad] were all for it". I've tried to do that with my own children. "It gives me great comfort".
