"Real Madrid and Marcelo have agreed to extend the contract of the player, who will remain tied to the club until June 30, 2022", the club said.

The Brazil worldwide has committed to a new deal that will expire on June 30, 2022.

The full-back has more than lived up to the billing in the ten years since and claimed his fourth La Liga title and third Champions League crown in May.

Marcelo, 29, will appear before the media at 1400 CET (1300 GMT) on Thursday after putting pen to paper on fresh terms with the Liga champions.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed that Marcelo will serve a two-match ban in Spain's top flight following his red card against Levante last Saturday.

The left-back will be absent for Sunday's trip to Real Sociedad and the visit of Real Betis on September 20.

Real Madrid have stuttered somewhat to start the new season, though, having drawn two of their opening three games.

Just three games in they already sit four points behind league-leaders and fierce rivals Barcelona.
