Paul Pogba could be out of action for a "few weeks" after suffering a suspected hamstring injury that took the shine off Manchester United's successful return to the Champions League, manager Jose Mourinho said.

It can be argued that Pogba's performances are much improved this season, with Nemanja Matic acting as the flawless foil for the Frenchman to roam forward.

"We felt that we could punish United at the sides of Pogba and Matic because Pogba's a world class player but he gets attracted to the ball and at times you can get on the opposite side of him", the 31-year-old explained.

Adam added: "At times we tried that but United are a top side and we had to work hard for that". He's obviously a top player but if you can get to the side of him, Matic is isolated.

United, who missed out on qualification for Europe's premier club competition last season, coasted to a 3-0 victory on Tuesday, with goals for Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

Speaking after the game, a delighted Mark Hughes told the BBC: "We were up against the best side in the Premier League judging by what they have shown so far".

'We have to respect them and they caused us problems too but we deserved a draw in the end I think'.

Pogba has scored twice this season for the Red Devils and received the club's Player of the Month award for August, having struck the victor in last season's Europa League final against Ajax.
